All of my vessels are 'lathe-turned' from burl, spalted or figured wood. Working alone I perform all phases of the creative process. I select all timbers used to create these vessels and apply all surface treatment and finishes to them. The vessels are first turned 'green' or 'wet', then they are dried for a period of at least 12 months or until fully cured. They are then taken back to the lathe where they are turned down to the final thickness. Surface treatments such as carving, fluting, beading, textures and often some bleaching takes place at this stage. Finally the finish is applied which consists of waxes, oils or 'film' finishes depending on the wood species. The final step is buffing the piece to a warm patina.
